Irish and International artists mark Samhain with an afternoon and evening of performance art exploring light and darkness
Solas | Hikari: A Samhain Performance Day.
Saturday 31st October, 3pm until late.
Live Art Ireland, Lisheenboy House, North Tipperary.
As the year turns towards its darker months, join us for an afternoon and evening of performance art on Samhain. Solas is Irish for light; Hikari is Japanese for light. Bringing together artists from Ireland and Japan, this day of performance explores inner light, interconnection and the transformative power of darkness, marking the ancient festival of Samhain as we cross the threshold into winter.
Performances unfold simultaneously throughout the house and grounds, so you are free to wander from one to the next and shape your own journey through the evening. The day is the culmination of a three-week international residency and a two-day workshop. The eight residency artists, four from Japan and four from Ireland, will present solo performances: Sandra Corrigan Breathnach, Tadashi Watanabe, Hiroshi Shimizu, Satomi Akutsu, Teruyuki Tanaka, Annie Hogg, Fionnuala McKenna and Deej Fabyc.
Nine workshop artists, mentored by Sandra Corrigan Breathnach and Tadashi Watanabe, will present a collaborative group performance: Stephanie Kay, Analía Beltrán i Janés, EL Putnam, Arlene Caffrey, Harry Moore, Rob Ireson, Silke Michels, Hilary Gilligan and Macha Shewolf.
