Artist Statement : I am interested in the personal and the political, humour, feminist strategies and subjectivities in a lived world. I make artists’ books, video installations, performances and drawings – pretty much anything that seems to structurally contain thoughts and action. Rachel is here as one of our final Soil Residents I gathered raw ingredients around the grounds of Millford House and, with a pestle and mortar, created a home-made, site-specific soil Ingredients: some dead animal fragments (dead moths, flies, snail shells,) dry leaves, beech nuts, fIowers and grasses, bark, moss, mushrooms, limestone,rainwater, lime and clay.

Two members of the collective Hi-Vis Witches will share the space for 3 weeks to develop a new participatory performance based around themes of building and magick. Soil and clay are prominent materials in our practice and we will further explore their symbolism in both construction, magic and the churning cycles of death and rebirth.
