István Kovács and Veronica Cordova de la Rosa

István Kovács and Veronica Cordova de la Rosa attended the In-Between Residency at Live Art Ireland in February 2026 from 13th-22nd. István Kovács (b. 1964, Budapest) is one of Central Europe’s leading performance artists, with over 24 years of experience. His work explores the physical body, life, and death, often creating striking live images using materials such as paint, plastic film, and cellophane. Kovács’s performances address humanity’s relationship to birth, mortality, and rebirth, blending conceptual depth with visual intensity. Veronica Cordova de la Rosa is an artist working across live art and performance art, photography, and socially engaged practice. She investigates the impact of images of violence on individual and collective well‑being and uses practice‑based research to physically manifest affect and translate emotion into embodied performance. Her work has been shown widely in the UK and internationally, including at the Wellcome Collection (London), Serpentine Gallery (London), Pitt Rivers Museum (Oxford), Modern Art Oxford, Ashmolean Museum (Oxford), Pushkin House (London), and Chino Cultural Complex (Japan).

Veronica says “I responded to the moment, to my relationship with my body, and to the situation of being photographed by Istevan. I performed the actions, and Istevan photographed them. During the performance, I covered my body with watercolours depicting breasts from different bodies. My body therefore became covered with images of women’s breasts and was placed in relation to another person’s gaze in this case, the photographer’s gaze”.
