Maria May is an emerging Irish Swedish Visual Artist working mainly in installation, live performance, video, and mixed media collage. Found objects and discarded materials are often repurposed and reimagined through cutting, tearing, and stitching. The practice centers on humans as part of a bigger whole and is constantly evolving in a search for interconnectedness and the sacredness found in nature and community. After many years of being a carer for her neurodivergent daughter, May is delighted to be pursuing a lifelong dream of exploring the world of art and its potential impact on our changing societal structures. She is pursuing collaborative projects and opportunities.
Based in the West of Ireland since 2004, May holds a 1st Class BA(Hons) degree in Fine Art and is in the process of obtaining an MA in Creative Practice, both from Atlantic Technological University Sligo. Her first Solo Exhibition is due to take place in the Ballinglen Arts Foundation’s Gallery in Ballycastle, County Mayo, in early 2026.
