Nicole Panneton is an interdisciplinary artist. What drives her is the freedom to create in the here and now, moving from one practice to another without identifying with any particular discipline. In this way, performance, drawing, photography and video, textile arts, writing and voice come together and intertwine fluidly. It’s a way of sharing and thinking about art in everyday life.
Her parents are French-speaking Québécois. A father with many creative projects, making Saint Joseph’s Day. A mother with multiple occupations: raising six children, managing the family budget, sewing and knitting and, finally, collaborating on her father’s creative projects.
Her path has taken many twists and turns. When she went to university to study visual arts, she had to help her sick mother and work. In her thirties, she graduated from Concordia University, Montreal (1987). Again out of obligation, she worked as a legal assistant until her retirement (2011). Despite these constraints, she has never ceased her artistic practice.
She has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Quebec, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Switzerland, Belgium and Bulgaria. She has authored four publications: Bouillonnante la soupe (2024), La soupe humaine à dévorer crue (2022), Janvier ce qui est là (2013) and Mâcher le stress au quotidien (2017). She has produced a number of videos, some of which were shown at the Rencontres
