Erica Felicella

Erica Felicella is a self-experienced grown practicing artist and arts professional that has beginning roots from New England and has lived in Dallas, Texas for over twenty years. She began her art career in photography and transitioned to a multi-disciplinary practice over ten years ago, releasing her to explore topics in the processes that mold the direction of her conceptual thoughts. 

In 2023, Felicella grew her practice overseas after completing a performance work in Ireland followed by a three-and-a-half-week self-guided residency. Her desire to return overseas as many times as possible is a new aspiration. Creating and experiencing from a world-wide perspective has opened her eyes and pushed her to new heights. In just the one journey her work has already begun to expand beyond what she has known for years.  

In her veteran practice she works as an artist, curator, producer, organizer, and program developer for herself, other artists, and the community at large. Her years of advocacy and accomplishments in North Texas has served as a backbone for her to grow upon her current geographical boundaries. 

Her current artistic practice includes endurance and durational based performance, site specific installation, and new media works. Her works dive into the depths of society through exploration of thoughts, ideas and a felt response of a collective whole. She believes that her art should be accessible and approachable in both concept and direct engagement. The works she produces are not necessarily about her directly although they relate to her personal life but also a common ground felt by the masses.

Her work has been performed and exhibited in museums like the Dallas Museum of Art, The Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Contemporary, Perot Museum, Amarillo Museum of Art, and others. Her work at times goes beyond the white wall structures to exterior experiences as well. 

Felicella is currently the Executive Producer of Dallas based arts organization AURORA. She works alongside the founders to be a part of its growth and expansion from a Biennial into a year-round organization free and accessible to the public in groundbreaking ways. The biennial alone has created an open space for thousands to experience through the use of technology as a tool for tomorrow’s creatives. 

She strives to build a better future through advocacy work by being engaged with several nonprofits, committees, events, and volunteer efforts. Her excitement to be active in North Texas has no boundaries. She is constantly finding a way to dig deeper and grow not only her own practice but also to expand the careers of other artists and expand the accessible connection between community and culture. The last twenty plus years are only the beginning in her eyes for the future of her practice is an open door.
