At Live-Art Ireland I am working on a project entitled ‘The Collective Womb’ which explores the interconnections between the womb and the earth at a time of increasing restrictions on reproductive rights and the ongoing climate crisis. The videos are made using stop-motion animation by rearranging mud into mythological narratives. The project involves reframing abortion as a conscious redistribution of life force back into the surrounding ecology. The figures in the work are directly influenced by Sheela-na-gigs, medieval carvings of women displaying an exaggerated vulva.
